Test available that predicts eye color

22 March 2010

The Forensic Molecular Biology department of Erasmus MC has developed a test
that can predict, based on DNA, whether a person has blue or brown eyes.

Forensic laboratories, such as the NFI (Netherlands Forensic Institute), can use this test in collecting and examining their evidence. Scientists involved in this research, among others, is Prof. Manfred Kayser, head of the Forensic Molecular Biology department of Erasmus MC, whom also a Project Leader on behalf of FMB-EMC for Forensic Genomics Consortium Netherlands (FGCN).

The Erasmus MC research has been made possible due to subsidies from the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) and the Netherlands Genomics Initiative (NGI) within the framework of the Forensic Genomics Consortium Netherlands (FGCN).
